Replacement Windows

New Replacement Windows Can Save You Money.

There is little doubt than new windows look great and will increase your home's curb appeal, but did you know that windows can actually pay for themselves? Studies have shown that new high energy efficient replacement windows can save you up to 70% of your cooling cost vs. old single pane windows.

True Cost of Replacement Windows

Think New Windows Are Expensive, Have You Looked At Your Electric Bill Lately?

There's no question that Dual Pane Replacement Windows can lower your energy usage, but did you know that according to recent studies windows can account for up to 40-70% of your household energy bill? And with the rising cost of energy, it's time you did something about it. But to get the best bang for your buck you need to know what creates energy efficiency.

The 3 Critical Elements Of A Window System That You Simply Must Know.

There are three critical energy elements of a replacement window system, they are:

1. Glass Coating - There are three basic grades of sputtered glass coatings: regular Low-E, Low-E2, and the newest Low-E3. The numbers represent how many layers of coating are on the glass. Usually the higher number of coatings, the less visible light can transmit through into your home. Low-E3 has the highest energy ratings while still having good visibility. It achieves this by blocking the near-infrared radiation and u.v. rays using 3 layers of silver at the highest spectral levels. Low-E coatings are a huge advancement in replacement windows technology.

2. Gas - There are two basic types of gas used in the window market, they are Krypton and Argon. Krypton is typically used in extremely cold climates, while Argon is typically used for not so cold climates. Both Krypton and Argon Gas are great for noise, cold and some heat. While Krypton is about 12x denser than standard air, Argon is about 6x denser. It is true that the gases can and do leak out over time, the type of spacer that is being used to seal the dual pane glass unit (see next section below) will determine how long the gas stays in the glass unit. Some spacers will lose the gas very rapidly, while others will hold it in for longer periods of time.

3. Spacers - In a dual pane or triple pane energy efficient replacement windows system, the spacer is the material used to separate the sheets of glass. The purpose of the spacer is to give the glass pack structure and to seal the unit air tight. Nearly everyone has heard about or seen dual pane replacement windows getting moisture trapped in between the sheets of glass and "fogging up" the window. This has been a very real problem since dual pane windows came on the market. To find out more about the spacer system being used, you should ask your MyLocalHomePro window remodeling contractor for details.
